Highlands Southern campus

The Southern Campus of the Highlands School is committed to providing appropriate support for young people who exhibit a diverse range of behavioural and learning disorders.  Respect, responsibility and fairness are the key focus as the students learn to manage their behavior, take responsibility for their learning and make sound life choices.

The experienced and caring staff believe the key to their charges educational success is through engagement, interest based learning, humour and consistency. These factors combine to ensure students feel supported and happy. Each student has an individual learning plan which is adjusted regularly to optimise their curricular and social progress with minimum anxiety.

The classes have access to technology, woodwork, automotive, landscaping, cooking, sport, art and an academic program which endorses Literacy and Maths for life. Social skills are also formally addressed to ensure students learn conflict resolution, community services access and travel training. Outside agencies will also assist those older students with work skills and employment opportunities as they prepare to leave school and enter the workforce.

Skills developed in this collaborative, cohesive environment, mean the students will leave the four walls of the classroom better equipped for a fulfilling, independent life in their communities.
